With winter season on the horizon and this winter is especially exciting as Aspen celebrates 75 years of skiing in Aspen, as well as big culture news. Besides the rumor of another amazing year of snow, there are plenty of new openings and activities for visitors and locals alike to look forward to. Check out some of the highlights below:
Set to open December , Chica, with locations in Miami and Las Vegas will open at the Residences at the Little Nell, adjacent to the Silver Queen Gondola at the base of Aspen Mountain. A “celebration of Latin Flavors” by Celebrity Chef Lorena Garcia, Chica’s menu will deliver the vibrant flavors of Latin American cuisine combined with a dynamic wine and mixology program.
Catch Steak Aspen is coming to Aspen and expected to open for the winter season. Catch is the sister of the famed NYC seafood restaurant, and will open on the rooftop at the corner of Galena Street and Hopkins Avenue with 10,000 square feet indoors as well as expansive patios offering outdoor dining offering stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains.
Felix Roasting Company opened their doors in early September and is located at the historic Hotel Jerome. Their Aspen outpost brings the best of Felix to the Rockies, serving their signature hot and cold beverages, delicate bites and an extensive menu of specialty drinks, each meticulously infused with Felix’s house-made non-dairy milks, proprietary syrups and tonics, and custom spice blends.
75th Anniversary – This winter, Aspen Snowmass celebrates 75 years of skiing in Aspen. This historic milestone will celebrate the heritage and history of skiing in Aspen as well as provide a look forward to the future of skiing with a series of activities throughout the season.
The season will highlight how innovation in ski racing, sustainability, athletic achievement, inclusion, art, and other areas have led to future possibilities in each of these areas.
Aspen Snowmass is offering $75 adult lift tickets on lodging/lift/equipment rental packages booked through Stay Aspen Snowmass. In addition, Aspen Snowmass is offering $75 lift tickets to all during the early season (Nov. 25 – Dec.21) and late season (Apr. 3 – 17).
The Aspen Art Museum will be the sole U.S. venue for a major international retrospective on the work of Andy Warhol. Opening on December 3, Andy Warhol: Lifetimes breaks new ground by casting a queer eye on the artist as an outsider and disruptor, who remade America’s image to resonate with a queer sensibility. This presentation is particularly exciting, as it marks a homecoming for the artist, who maintained a close, long-standing connection with the city of Aspen and the many creatives who have called it home.
Herbert Bayer Center at the Aspen Institute – Opening in December , the new Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies will focus on preserving and honoring the art of Bayer, who designed the Institute’s historic campus, influenced the foundations of modern Aspen, and whose work is an iconic expression of the Bauhaus movement in America.
The new center will exhibit Bayer’s work from Lynda and Stewart Resnick’s extensive Bayer collection, the Aspen Institute’s holdings, as well as pieces on loan from museums, while housing archives from Bayer scholars.
Delta returns: Beginning Dec. 18, Delta Airlines will return to servicing the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport with daily nonstops from Atlanta and Salt Lake.
Orange County Direct: United added a non-stop flight from Orange County, CA to Aspen. The daily, seasonal service begins on Dec. 16 and will run through March 26.
